A chassis is a platform until somebody makes it useful. Can you upfit a brand new chassis before it goes into service?
Yes, and that is the ideal time. A new chassis has no accumulated damage, nothing to work around, and the full install can be sequenced in one visit instead of three. Santa Ana fleets taking delivery of multiple units should send the spec early so bodies, gates and shelving can be ordered while the chassis are still in transit.
Do you supply the equipment or do I buy it?
Either works. Equipment supplied through the shop follows the posted parts markup tiers, with a deposit at order on special order items because bodies, gates and crane units are built to order rather than stocked. Fleets with existing supplier accounts frequently ship equipment here directly and pay for installation labor only.
How much downtime should I plan for an upfit?
Most installs sit in the upfit band at 3 to 10 business days. A shelving package or a bulkhead is at the short end. A service body swap with lighting and a gate is at the long end. Parts lead time moves that calendar far more than shop capacity does, so ordering early is the real lever.
Will an upfit affect my payload or vehicle weight ratings?
It always affects payload, because everything installed has weight. A steel service body can run 1,200 to 1,900 pounds against 700 to 1,100 for aluminum, and a full steel shelving package can add 350 to 600 pounds. Those numbers are part of the conversation before anything gets ordered, not after the truck is built.
Can you install equipment on electric delivery vans?
Yes, with restrictions that matter. Battery vans have zones where the floor and underbody cannot be drilled, so anchoring uses factory attachment points and structural members only, and load layouts are planned around them. Santa Ana fleets adding electric units should send the model and floor plan early so the layout is designed to what the platform actually allows.
Do you handle the electrical side of an upfit?
