A cab that looks like it needs a front clip may have moved dimensionally at the rear, and that is why the first real step is measuring rather than pulling.
This is also why door fit is such a good early indicator. Doors are precision fitted to an opening, and if the opening has moved even slightly the door tells you immediately. A truck that took a hit and now has a door that needs a shove to latch is telling you the cage moved, regardless of what the sheet metal looks like.

Why can you not heat or section high strength steel wherever you like?
High strength and ultra high strength steels get their properties from a controlled heat treatment during manufacture. Apply enough heat during repair and you undo that treatment locally, leaving a soft zone in a structure that was built to be stiff there. The panel will look perfect and will fold in the next impact at a location it was never supposed to fold.
That is why heat is limited by procedure rather than by feel, and why straightening these steels by heating and pulling is not an option the way it was on older mild steel structures. Where a section has yielded, the correct answer is usually to replace it, not to persuade it back into shape with a torch.
Sectioning is governed the same way. The published procedure identifies which components may be sectioned, exactly where, and with what joint construction, and it identifies components that must be replaced in full. Those rules exist because the joint location determines whether the structure still directs energy the way it was designed to. We work from the procedure, and it goes in the file.

How do you decide between repairing a cab and replacing it?
The decision comes out of the measuring data, not out of a first impression. Once the unit is on the bench and reference points are compared against specification, you know how far out the structure is, in which planes, and whether the deviation is in an area that can be pulled and corrected or in an area the procedure will not permit repairing.

The output is a documented before and after. Initial measurements, staged corrections, and final measurements all get recorded, which serves two purposes. What gets re verified before the unit leaves after structural work?
Everything that depends on structural geometry. Door fit and latch operation, glass opening squareness, hood and fender relationships, and cab mount seating all get checked against the corrected structure rather than assumed to be fine because the measurements came back in tolerance. A door that still needs persuasion means something was missed.
Sensors are the second pass. Forward radar mounted in or behind the bumper area has to be aimed after any front structure work, and a windshield mounted camera has to be recalibrated if the glass was replaced or the opening moved. Pre scan and post scan bracket the whole job so any fault that appears can be attributed correctly.
The third item is sealing and corrosion. Every cut, weld, and drilled hole introduced during structural work is a potential water and corrosion path, and closed sections that were opened have to be re protected.
