Does painting a refuse body actually last?
On the outside, yes, if the preparation is honest. The failure mode on refuse body paint is almost always contamination and thin metal underneath rather than the coating itself. Bodies that arrive with residue in every seam need washing, degreasing and mechanical preparation that takes longer than the paint work does, and skipping it produces a finish that lifts within a season.
Inside the body, paint is the wrong tool. Interior surfaces need a lining chosen for abrasion resistance, not a finish chosen for appearance, and those are different products with different application requirements. Operators who repaint an interior get a good looking body for about two loads.
Numbering, reflective marking and department identification go on last, after the finish has fully cured. A packer mount cracked again after being welded. What is done differently?
